Sen. Jeff Sessions on US Immigration System: It Is Terribly Broken

Mobile, Alabama— Former US Senator and US Attorney General Jeff Sessions held a press conference at Mobile’s Government Plaza on Monday afternoon. He spoke on the US Immigration System, DACA, his four-part American Immigration Reform Plan, and his opponent for the US Senate, former college football coach Tommy Tuberville.

After addressing the small crowd of people and media personnel that was gathered, he began by stating how the US Immigration is terribly broken. “We know that, and we’ve seen that for years,” he explained. He went on to say that President Trump would likely curtail the number of work visas for foreigners who come to the US simply to take jobs in the next couple of days. “We are without jobs that anybody from abroad can take and if they do take them, some American remains on the unemployment line,” he stressed.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DACA for short, was an executive branch memorandum signed by former President Barack Obama back in 2012. This policy would allow some individuals with unlawful presence in the US after brought here as children to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and become eligible for a work permit. As he spoke on DACA, he expressed, “The Supreme Court’s decision on Obama’s unlawful DACA amnesty is the latest example of the legal swamp.” “Working to push illegals out and keep our borders open. He went to say that he is prepared to fight and ready to fight to return our immigration system to the root of law.

To combat this policy, he has come up with his four-part plan which he calls the American Immigration Reform Plan. The first part is to reduce the number of foreign workers coming to the US. “President Trump should immediately extend and expand his immigration proclamation to limit guest workers until the American unemployment numbers return to normal, and then we need to reduce the number of foreign workers for the long-term to protect Americans first,” he announced. The second part is to secure our border and restore our sovereignty. “We must build the wall. But we can’t stop there. We must also fully fund ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and the Border Patrol, and do a better job of tracking aliens in the United States to make sure they leave when they are supposed to leave,” he demanded. The third part is to deport all criminal aliens and stop sanctuary cities. “Now Congress must act to cut off federal funds to sanctuary cities and states. If they choose to protect criminal aliens from federal immigration enforcement, they do so at the expense of the law-abiding citizens and residents who are victims of those aliens’ crimes. They should not get a dime in federal funding until they stop shielding criminals from justice,” he stated. And lastly, the fourth part is to end President Obama’s illegal DACA amnesty.

Since he is running for his former Senate seat, he is running against Mr. Tommy Tuberville. Even though both candidates are members of the Republican party, Senator Sessions had some strong words against his opponent. “He’s hiding out and won’t debate.” “He is clueless,” he exclaimed. He went on to say that he would not be an effective voice for President Trump like he would be.

Senator Sessions has strong feelings when it comes to our nation and the immigration system. When asked, why is the number one issue aside from other issues such as police reform, the economy, the environment, etc., he responded, “It is not number one, but it is definitely up there because there are many people here unlawfully.”
