Doug has been a strong supporter of legislation that supports equal pay like the Paycheck Fairness Act, but not only that, he’s had the back of Alabama’s workers like me and my family.”

Lilly Ledbetter’s call to support Senator Jones comes as he works to champion equal pay, bring health care manufacturing jobs to Alabama and provide support for Alabama’s hospitals, businesses and families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lilly Ledbetter led the charge for equal pay for equal work when she discovered that she was making less than her male counterparts at Gadsden’s Goodyear Tire and Rubber plant. Her years-long court battle for equal pay led her to the Supreme Court and finally the White House, where President Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Equal Pay Act into law in 2009. The law extends the statute of limitations for filing a complaint if a worker is being paid less for doing the same job.
Transcript of Lilly Ledbetter’s video:
My name is Lilly Ledbetter, and I’m from Jacksonville, Alabama, and you may know me from my fight to make sure the women of Alabama and America get equal pay for equal work.
After 19 years, I found out that I was making significantly less money than the men doing the same job as me at the tire plant here.. Well, I came home to my husband, and we talked it over and decided to fight it. That fight brought me all the way to the Supreme Court, and then the White House with the signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Equal Pay Act by President Obama.
But that fight didn’t start with me — today is the anniversary of the 1963 Equal Pay Act, the first law that declared that all women deserve equal pay for equal work, a fight I was proud to continue. It’s also why I’m proud to support Doug Jones. Doug has been a strong supporter of legislation that supports equal pay like the Paycheck Fairness Act, but not only that, he’s had the back of Alabama’s workers like me and my family.
Doug believes that everyone should have access to a good-paying job and affordable health care, and that to deliver on this promise, we have to tear down the partisan barriers.
I hope y’all will join me in working to reelect Senator Doug Jones. Doug has our back and we have to have his. Thank you!
