Reagan’s Attorney General says Sessions is “one of the great conservative leaders of our time”.
MOBILE, Ala. — Today, former U.S. Attorney General Ed Meese endorsed Jeff Sessions in a new radio ad that is playing on stations across Alabama. Meese served as Attorney General for President Ronald Reagan. In 2019, President Donald Trump awarded Meese the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States.
In the radio ad, Meese praises both Trump and Sessions, calling Sessions “one of the great conservative leaders of our time.”
Meese makes it clear that as Attorney General, Sessions was right to follow the law and recuse himself from the Russia probe: “Let me clear something up: Jeff Sessions did the right thing when he recused himself from the phony Russian investigation. The law is clear: he had to recuse. He could not legally investigate himself or the Trump campaign. If Jeff had not recused, he would have broken the law, and the Democrats would have damaged President Trump badly,” Meese says.
“Jeff Sessions is a uniquely strong man with the integrity to do the right thing, even when it’s hard,” Meese says.
Meese, who helped lead President Trump’s transition team after the 2016 election, said that, “I’m a big fan and a strong supporter of President Trump, and I’m also a great admirer of Jeff Sessions. Jeff was an excellent U.S. Attorney under President Reagan.”
Sessions said he appreciated Meese’s strong support.
“One of the greatest privileges of my life was serving as Attorney General for President Trump, and I am deeply proud of the many conservative accomplishments that we made at the Department of Justice in supporting the police and law enforcement, prosecuting criminal gangs like MS-13, and defending religious liberty. I am honored to have Attorney General Meese’s support—no one has been a more stalwart conservative champion than him,” Sessions remarked.
“We are at a crucial time in our nation’s history. The radical left is seeking to destroy so much of what has made America great and China is aggressively challenging us on numerous fronts. Alabama must send a proven conservative leader to the U.S. Senate to fight for us. Tommy Tuberville just isn’t up to the job of representing Alabama’s interests in the Senate. I am ready to take on and beat Doug Jones in the fall and hit the ground running on Day One in the U.S. Senate,” Sessions said.
“It was a tremendous honor to work as a young man as a prosecutor and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama under Attorney General Meese’s leadership during the Reagan administration. No one has done more for America and the conservative cause than Ed Meese,” Sessions concluded.
