Celebration
of the Arts awards postponed until 2022

Council
on the Arts reschedules biennial event due to ongoing pandemic

MONTGOMERY,
Ala.,
(March 10,
2021) Alabama State Council on the Arts is postponing the
biennial Celebration of the Arts awards ceremony until 2022 due to the
ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Originally scheduled for May 19, 2021, the ceremony
will take place on May 18, 2022, at Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery.

The Celebration of the
Arts
award program shines a spotlight on the arts in Alabama and on
individuals who make significant and impactful contributions to our state’s
rich cultural landscape. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has inhibited the Council’s
ability to safely and adequately plan and execute the high standards associated
with this event.

“While we are disappointed that the Celebration of the Arts
awards will not be on our events calendar this spring, we have concluded that
the responsible course of action is to postpone until next year,” said Dr. Elliot Knight, Executive
Director of the Council. “Rescheduling the event will enable us to provide the
experience that our attendees and honorees expect and deserve in a safe
environment.”
