Alabama State looking to extend their win streak as they host Alabama A&M

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State conclude their three-game homestand inside the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Saturday afternoon for a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchup against rival Alabama A&M.
 
The game is scheduled to tip at 2 pm and will be the beginning of a doubleheader with the men’s program, with COVID-19 protocols in place. Each entrant into the arena must have a negative COVID test within the last 72 hours and must show proof along with a ticket to enter the game. All tickets are being sold online and in person at the ASU Ticket Office located at ASU Stadium (football).

Masks are required to be worn at all times on the Alabama State campus.

Alabama State and Alabama A&M have met 59 times in school history, with the Hornets leading the all-time series 35-24.

GAME NOTES

  • The Hornets are looking to extend their home win streak after defeating Alcorn State 74-39 on Monday evening. They have won three of four home games so far this season after defeating South Alabama (Nov. 28), Mobile (Dec. 18) and Alcorn State.
  • All but one Hornet scored in the contest, including three double digit scorers led by Shmya Ward (Memphis, Tenn.) with 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting along with six rebounds and three assists. Jayla Crawford (Birmingham, Ala.) added 14 points and two steals, while Ayana Emmanuel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) added 13 points and four rebounds on the night.
  • Head Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson is 30-17 against Alabama A&M during her tenure, dating back to the 1998-99 season, her first season leading the program.
  • Alabama State is 17-13 against Alabama A&M in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in the all-time series.
  • Saturday’s game is the final of three game consecutive SWAC home contests for Alabama State as they have faced Jackson State, Alcorn State, and rival Alabama A&M all in a seven-day span.
