Two Tigers Named D2CCA All-South Region

LIVINGSTON, Ala. The 2021 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Women’s Soccer All-South Region Teams were announced Tuesday. The teams were voted
on by the region’s sports information directors.

West Alabama women’s soccer member, Anele Komani, was selected First Team All South-Region. West Alabama men’s soccer member, Kyle McLeod, was selected Second Team All-Region. 

“Tremendous student-athletes make up the All-South-Region team, and it’s marvelous Anele has been recognized,” UWA women’s soccer head coach Graeme Orr said. “My hope is that she receives All-American honors as an acknowledgment of a fabulous career at UWA.” 

Senior standout Komani finished the season with five goals and one assist for 11 points. The London, England has taken 44 shots with 20 of them being on target. 

During her time as a Tiger, Komani has scored 25 goals and passed 14 assists for 64 points. She has taken a total of 176 shots with 53 of them being on target and has recorded six game- winners.

Komani has collected multiple postseason accolades during her time at UWA. She has been named First Team All-GSC all four years (2017-2021), earned a spot on UWA Women’s Soccer Team of the Decade, and was an Honorable Mention for the GSC Women’s Soccer Team of the Decade.
The midfielder has also been named D2CCA South All-Region First Team (2018), GSC Fall Academic Honor Roll (2018, 2020), USC South All-Region Second Team (2017, 2018), D2CCA South All-Region Second Team (2017, 2019), GSC Freshman of the Year (2017), and GSC Freshman of the Week twice (2017).

“This is a very well deserved accolade for Kyle,” UWA head men’s soccer coach Ross Nelson said. “He has been outstanding this season and during his time at UWA. He is a loyal leader that has given so much to the program. It is great to see him mentioned among the best players in our region and getting the recognition he deserves.”

McLeod played and started in all 16 games this season. The Montrose, Scotland native took 26 shots with six of them being on target. 

During his time at UWA, McLeod has played in a total of 68 matches and started in 52 of them. He has passed 12 total assists and has scored three goals for 18 points. He has taken 95 shots with 23 of them being on target, and has recorded one game-winner. 

The forward has also been named to the Second Team All-GSC (2018) and was named to the Fall Academic Honor Roll (2017, 2018).
