UAH Receives Berth to NCAA South Regional as No. 6 Seed

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team has earned a berth to the 2021 NCAA South Region Championships as the sixth seed as announced on the NCAA regional selection show on Monday evening.

The NCAA South Region Championships will begin on Thursday, Dec. 2. The first round will continue on that Friday, and the second round will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4-5.

UAH’s opening-round matchup will take place on Dec. 2 against No. 3 seed Nova Southeastern. The Chargers and Sharks have only matched up twice all-time, with NSU taking the most recent contest in 2010.

No. 1 seed West Florida will host the tournament from Dec. 2-5 at the UWF Fieldhouse, which will also feature No. 2 seed Tampa, No. 4 seed Embry-Riddle, No. 5 seed Lynn, No. 7 seed Palm Beach Atlantic and No. 8 seed Spring Hill in addition to UAH as the No. 6 seed and Nova Southeastern as the No. 3 seed.

The UAH volleyball program will be making its seventh appearance in the NCAA tournament, as the Chargers earn their second straight berth after appearing in the 2019 NCAA South Region Championships. The 2020 fall NCAA championship schedule was cancelled due to COVID-19.

UAH owns a 21-9 overall record in the 2021 campaign and a 13-3 record in Gulf South Conference matches, with the Chargers most recently falling in the GSC tournament semifinals this past weekend.

The Chargers have won 20 or more games in four consecutive fall seasons, which is the first time the program has achieved the feat since a string of 12 straight 20-plus win seasons from 1990-2001.
