JSU Takes on Vanderbilt Sunday

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Jacksonville State University women’s basketball team continues a stretch of road contests this weekend in Nashville, Tennessee against Vanderbilt on Sunday at 2 p.m.

JSU enter the contest 2-1 on the season following a56-53 road win over Samford on Wednesday and are 1-1- on the road so far.
 
Entering the game, JSU senior Imari Martin is 10th in the ASUN in scoring, averaging 12.7 points per game. Senior Kennedy Gavin ranks 17th with 11.3 points per game after a career-high 17-point performance against Samford. In addition, junior Nekiyah Thompson is shooting 63.6 percent from beyond-the-arc on the season, ranking third in the ASUN.
 
Gavin leads the Gamecocks on the boards this season, having totaled double-digit marks in two out of three games so far. Gavin is averaging 8.7 boards per game, ranking fourth in the ASUN.
 
Under Head Coach Rick Pietri, the Gamecocks are 2-14 against Power 5 opponents, with wins over Alabama (64-64, Nov. 18, 2014) and Ole Miss (60-49, Dec. 2, 2018).
 
Sunday’s game against Vanderbilt is the third of five consecutive road contests. The stretch will continue Friday Nov. 26 against Indiana State.
 
Sunday’s meeting marks the 2nd all-time matchup between the two programs. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 1-0. Vanderbilt defeated JSU last time out, 66-88, on the road on Nov. 5, 2019.  Pietri is 0-2 throughout his career against Vandy.
 
Vanderbilt enters the matchup 2-2 overall following a win over Tennessee Tech last time out.
