Men’s basketball slides past Lagrange 112-78 in home opener

MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo men’s basketball unit took care of business in their Trustmark Arena debut, beating LaGrange 112-78 Tuesday evening.  With the victory the Falcons are now 1-3 on the season with LaGrange dropping to 3-1.

The earned a decent lead early in the game, going uo seven points in the first 1:30 of the first half.  LaGrange started to find opportunities offensively but the Falcons continued to build its lead throughout the remainder of the half.  Montevallo pushed its lead 63-32 by the halftime break, shooting at a 43.3% on 13/30 field goals.

The Falcons did not let up in the second half, maintaining the edge by more than 30 points in the game.  Montevallo jumped up by 40 points after a Braxton Bertollette dunk gave UM a 91-51 lead.  The Falcons held its poise and closed out the match with a 112-78 final score.

Montevallo shot 28/60 from the field at a 46.7 % clip while going 10/24 from three, and 12/17 from the free throw line.  James McNeil led UM in scoring going a perfect 8/8 from the field with 19 points, eight assists, three rebounds, and a steal.  Mason Shifflett was also a major contributor for the Falcons scoring 17 points on 6/8 FG’s and 3/3 from three, to go with three rebounds and an assist.  

UP NEXT: The Falcons will face West Georgia on Saturday November 20th, with tip-off set for 2:00 PM in Huntsville.
