Falcons Soccer Pair Earns Place on CoSIDA Academic Team

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2021 awardees for its Academic All-District Team for men’s soccer on Thursday.Two Montevallo Falcons were selected among nine representatives from the Gulf South Conference.

Seniors Edin Hernandez and Salvador Plaza were the representatives from UM. Hernandez is an Exercise & Nutrition major with a 4.00 GPA. He started all 18 games for the Falcons, scoring three goals and six assists, which is second on the team.
Plaza was the Falcons starter in goal all 18 games. The Business Marketing major has a 3.61 GPA. He has 63 saves and eight shutouts for UM this season. 

Joining Salvador and Hernandez in the GSC are Ethan Wilson, Sr., Alabama Huntsville (Mechanical Engineering, 3.50), Connor Young, Sr., Alabama Huntsville (Mechanical Engineering, 3.59), Andrew Elkins, Gr., Auburn Montgomery (Business Administration, 4.00), Robin Stoffels, Sr., Spring Hill (Financial Economics, 3.98), Gavin Scott, Sr., Union (Exercise Science, 3.45), Ed Chappe, Gr. West Florida (Exercise Science, 3.91) and 
Bernardo Torres, Jr., West Florida (Engineering Technology, 3.50)

The annual award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. 

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
