BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama State’s Kalysia Bates (Phenix City, Ala.), Emersen Belles (Gilbert, Ariz.), McKenzie Boland (Stockbridge, Ga.) and Mahogany Vinson (Richton Park, Ill.) for SWAC Volleyball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of play.
Bates was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week after recording 34 kills in three games over the week, along with 10 digs and eight blocks. She also added five aces and logged a total on 42 points to help the Lady Hornets to a 2-1 record.
Belles earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after logging double-digit digs over the week in three games for the Lady Hornets. The junior earned totals of 41 digs in three games along with six aces and two aces over the week.
Boland logged 60 assists, 14 digs and two aces in a three-game week en route to earning Setter of the Week honors. The lone Alabama State senior had 32 assists and six-dig performance in the win against Southern Mississippi on Thursday, November 4.
Vinson, a transfer from Akron, logged a total of 40 kills, 35 points, seven blocks and four digs from her middle blocker position to earn Newcomer of the Week honors. The junior is currently second on the team in blocks this year with xx.
Alabama State will host Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M to close out their regular season this weekend. The Hornets will take on the Wildcats on Friday, November 12 at 6 pm, while hosting the Rattlers on Sunday, November 14 at 4 pm.
