Jaguars down Badgers

MOBILE, Ala. (November 9, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men’s basketball team opened the 2021-22 exhibition season with a 102-41 loss to their NCAA Division I Old Shell Road neighbors the University of South Alabama (USA) Jaguars on Tuesday night at the USA Mitchell Center.

Guard Jaden Gray led the Badgers with eight points while forward Beril Kabamba pulled in eight rebounds. SHC shot 25.8% (16-62) from the floor including a 0-of-15 night from 3-point distance. The Badgers lost 21 turnovers versus 11 steals by USA for 29 Jaguar points off turnovers. At the charity stripe, SHC made 9-of-17 for 52.9%.

Jay Jay Chandler paced USA with 21 points as five Jags reached double-digits in scoring and Javon Franklin hauled down nine rebounds. The Jaguars (1-0) shot 47.4% (37-78) from the floor and were 31% (9-29) from 3-point distance. The home team made 65.5% (19-29) from the free throw line and out-rebounded the Badgers 58-38 for a 25-5 advantage in second chance points and a 50-22 edge in scoring in the paint. USA lost nine turnovers to two SHC steals, allowing just four points off turnovers.

The Badgers next travel to Birmingham on Thursday to face the Samford University Bulldogs at 7 p.m. in the Pete Hannah Center in the second of three pre-season exhibition contests for SHC this season.
