Talladega Moves to 5-0 with Homecoming Win

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Talladega College men’s basketball built on its No. 11 preseason NAIA ranking with a 5-0 start to the 2021-2022 season. The Tornadoes moved to 3-0 at home in the Dr. Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center with a 93-67 Homecoming win over Arkansas Baptist College on Nov. 6. The win came days after an 86-56 home win over Florida Memorial College. 

Talladega took a 47-25 lead into halftime to help secure the win. The Tornadoes’ scored more than a quarter of their points (25) off 19 ABC turnovers and produced 54 points off the bench.

Edwin Louis, who entered the game averaging 10 points per game, led Talladega with a career-high 25 points against Arkansas Baptist, hitting seven 3-pointers. Cam Potts added 13 points and 11 assists, while Darryl Baker and Amir Yusuf each scored a dozen and Jervay Green had 11 points. 

The Tornadoes opened the season on Oct. 23 with a 113-63 home victory over Wilberforce. Kamron Brice scored 33 to earn Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors. Talladega went on to sweep its trip to St. Louis, beating Missouri Baptist, 87-54, and Lyon College, 89-48.

Talladega will continue its homestand on Nov. 11 and Nov. 13, hosting the University of Fort Lauderdale and William Woods University in the third annual Fresh Start Classic.
