UAH Slips in Final Regular Season Road Match of 2021

MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team wrapped up its 2021 regular season road schedule with a 3-1 loss (17-25, 20-25, 25-15, 17-25) at Montevallo on Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action. UAH slides to 19-8 (11-3 GSC), while UM improves to 16-13 (7-7 GSC).
 
Kendall Scharbert paced the Chargers offense on Saturday with a team-high 18 kills and .581 hitting percentage as she also added four total blocks and four digs. Scharbert’s 18 kills are a career-best for the senior.
 
Molly Presnell also had a dominant attacking performance with 16 kills on a .316 hitting percentage in addition to eight digs and two service aces.
 
Sabrina Duncan eclipsed 40 assists for the third time this season with 42 helpers against Montevallo, as she nearly achieved a double-double by ranking second on the team with nine digs.
 
Shayla Libby anchored the Chargers defense with 12 digs on Saturday, followed by Duncan with nine and Presnell with eight scoops. Five Chargers had six digs or more in the contest.
 
Montevallo put together an early advantage in the opening set on Saturday as they did not trail on the way to a 25-17 win in the first, which was followed up by the Falcons taking the second 25-20 for a 2-0 match lead.
 
The Chargers defense limited the Falcons to just a .023 hitting percentage while owning a swing rage of .281 to help the squad to a 25-15 win in the third to force a fourth set.
 
UM sealed the four-set win in the fourth set with a 25-17 win in the frame, as the Falcons took control of the stanza late.
 
UAH looks ahead to the final home matches of the 2021 campaign next weekend with Mississippi College visiting Friday at 6 p.m. before a 2 p.m. meeting with West Alabama on Saturday.
