Women’s Soccer and Alabama Huntsville Tie in Last Regular Season Match

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – West Alabama women’s soccer team and Alabama Huntsville ended the match in a 0-0 tie after a scoreless second overtime period Thursday night at Charger Park in Huntsville, Alabama to close out its regular season before entering postseason play.

The Tigers finished their regular season with a 8-5-3 overall record and a 6-4-2 GSC record, ranking them No.7 in the conference. The Chargers ended their season with a 6-7-3 overall record and went 4-6-2 in the conference. 

The Tigers logged the first three shots of the match. The first shot was a shot on goal taken by Mikayla Anderson which was saved by the Chargers’ goalkeeper. The second shot came from Anele Komani, with the third shot taken by Dana Cruz

UWA out shot UAH 16-10, and won the shots on goal battle 6-5.

Neither team found the back of the net in the regulation match, resulting in a 0-0 tie. 

Alabama Huntsville took one shot in the first overtime period, while West Alabama took two shots in the second overtime period. It was kept a scoreless match, resulting in a tie. 

The Tigers’ goalie Tabitha Weldon recorded five saves as she faced 10 shots in her 110 minutes of action. The Charger’s goalkeeper Adriana  Wright recorded six saves as she faced 16 shots in her 110 minutes of action. 

Two yellow cards and 15 fouls were called in the matchup between UAH and UWA. The Chargers were called for eight, while the Tigers were called for seven.

Box Score 

The GSC Championship Tournament will begin Sunday, Nov. 7. The Tigers will battle No. 2 Mississippi College in the first round of postseason play at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Clinton, Mississippi.

After the first round all matches will be played at Ashton Brosnaham Park in Gonzalez, Florida. Semifinals will be held November 11 with the championship match being November 13. Kickoff times for all matches will be announced as the conference releases more information.
