UAH Concludes 2021 Season with 0-0 Draw Against UWA

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women’s soccer team closed out the 2021 season on Thursday night, playing to a 0-0 draw with visiting West Alabama. The Chargers end the season at 6-7-3 (4-6-2 Gulf South Conference), while UWA advances to postseason play at 8-5-3 (6-4-2 GSC).

The Chargers conclude the season allowing just 16 goals on the year which marks the second-fewest goals allowed by a team in program history, and the 1.0 goals allowed per game matches the 2004 team which set the record for fewest goals allowed with 13.

On Thursday night, Adriana Wright helped the Chargers keep the goals allowed total at just the 16 as she made six saves in the 110 minutes to record her third shutout of the season which gives her now four for her career.

West Alabama dominated the first half of play, outshooting UAH by a 10-1 margin while earning five corners and not conceding one, but the second 45 minutes the field was titled more in the Blue and White’s direction with the home side outshooting the guests by an 8-4 margin and earning a 5-3 advantage in corners.

The contest would end with UWA holding a 16-10 edge in shots but a slimmer 6-5 advantage in attempts on goal.

The game marks the final competition in a Charger uniform for UAH’s nine seniors: Jessica Bissinger, Melanie Brannon, Brynn Colvin, Kailian Davis, Kelsey Kandil, Mackenzie Kandil, Marissa Miltko, Jillian Pilcher, and Devyn Thompson.

Colvin concludes her career with 27 goals which ranks fifth all-time in UAH history, and she leaves with 78 matches played which is a career record, besting Nina Jetsu’s 72 from 2012-15.
