BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State junior Emersen Belles (Gilbert, Ariz.) was rewarded for her play in the conference cluster over the weekend by being named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office on Friday morning.
The libero logged 38 digs in three games in Grambling, Louisiana along with seven assists and three service aces in the Hornets’ three wins. She also recorded her third 20-plus dig game of the season with 20 in the sweep over Grambling State.
On the season, Belles is leading Alabama State with 240 digs in 67 sets played, good for 3.58 digs per set. She is also one of five Hornets who have recorded at least 20 aces on the year.
Alabama State will return to the court this Sunday, as they have road matches against Mississippi Valley State on November 7 and Jackson State on Monday, November 8.
