MONTEVALLO – At long last, a glimpse of normalcy returns as the men’s basketball season returns to full capacity. The Falcons tip off the new full schedule of games tonight in Chicago against Division I Depaul University in an exhibition game. Tip-off is set for 7:30 at Wintrust Arena.
Tonight’s game will be a family reunion of sorts as UM Hall of Famer DeWayne Peevy is the DePaul Vice President and Director of Athletics. Peevy is a 1996 graduate of Montevallo. He not only played on the Falcons baseball team but served as the Sports Information Director.
Head Coach Danny Young is leading his troops onto the floor for the 19th year. He has an impressive record of 359-193, at Montevallo, having guided the Falcons to the Division II postseason tournament 11 times. Overall, Young has a record of 410-204.
The Falcons have a solid group of returning contributors on the roster, led by senior guard Xavier Malcom. Malcom led the team in scoring in the abbreviated 2020-21 season, averaging 14.2 ppg. Adding to the experience in the starting lineup are JC McNeil and Bob Carroll. McNeil, a 6-0 junior guard, averaged 12.9 points per contest. Meanwhile, Carroll, a 6-2 junior guard tallied 11 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest.
This will be the only exhibition game on the schedule for the Falcons. They will open the regular season on the road against Tampa on Nov. 12 in St. Leo, Florida.
