JACKSON, Tenn. – The West Alabama volleyball team fell to Union University in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) sweep on Tuesday night inside Fred DeLay Gymnasium. With the loss, UWA falls to 1-20 and 1-11 in conference play while Union improves to 17-11 in the season and 8-4 in the GSC.
The Tigers are back in action with two matches this weekend, including one on Friday against Auburn University – Montgomery and one on Saturday against the University of West Florida. Each competition will begin at 6 p.m. inside of Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
Sophomore Madison Fisher led the way with 11 kills on 30 swings. Fisher also added six digs to the UWA defense. Freshman Amelia Johnigan put up eight kills on 15 swings for a team-best .400 attacking percentage. Chyna Dixon chipped in six kills, while junior Nathalia Medeiros had five. Beatriz Giordan had kills with three.
Freshman Maddie Van Dyke put up 26 assists to lead the team in that category for the third time in a week.
Defensively, junior MacKenzie Wells had her 20th double-digit dig total of the year after posting 13. Van Dyke chipped in eight, Quiara Dunson and Heloisa Niespodzinski had five each, and Dixon had two.
