Jimenez named SWAC Freshman of the Year, two others selected All-SWAC

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Alabama State midfielder Camila Jimenez (Weston, Fla.) was named the Freshman of the Year by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) ahead of the conference tournament Wednesday night.

Jimenez started all 16 matches for the Lady Hornets in her first year of collegiate soccer, playing 1,431 minutes and scoring a team-high six goals on the season. She tallied 12 points on the year after taking 38 total shots, with 21 on goal. She added a pair of game-winning goals and scored in six different matches, including three in conference play.

She was joined on the first team by senior McKenna Wiscombe (Orem, Utah) who made the team as a defender this season after making the move for the Lady Hornets in 2021. She finished with 16 starts and scored three goals and added a pair of assists for eight total points. Wiscombe attempted 38 total shots with 16 on goal, and she was instrumental in helping Alabama State achieve four shutouts.

Isabella Beortegui (Santa Ana, Calif.) was named to the second team as midfielder after a year in which she scored four goals and recording a pair of assists. She tallied 10 total points while attempting 35 total shots and 22 on goal. She also added one game-winning goal.

Alabama State, the No. 4 seed this week, opens the conference tournament against No. 5 seed Texas Southern with kick set for 2 pm on the Prairie View A&M campus.
