The Miles women’s basketball team released its 2021-22 women’s basketball schedule this week and it includes a historic start – the program’s first-ever contest against Auburn.
Head coach Phillip Wallace, Jr. said the game against the Southeastern Conference foe will allow for multiple positives for the Lady Bears’ program.
“This game with Auburn University will continue to promote our program to the national spotlight. We are excited to play a SEC member during the early season,” said Wallace, who begins his 18th season as head coach at Miles. “Me and my staff to will also have a chance to assess and evaluate our team as we get ready for a SIAC championship run.”
We have 4 Division I transfers on the 2021-22 roster which will help the younger members on the team meet the expectations necessary to compete on the Division I level. We also play UAB in early December which will also give us the necessary experience to compete on this level. This year’s team is composed of 11 freshmens, 3 sophomores, 3 juniors and 4 Division 1 transfers. We will rely on them most of the season to carry a very youthful 2021-22 squad.
