BIRMINGHAM – Redshirt senior tight end Hayden Pittman has been named a nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy, which is annually given to the nation’s top player who began his career as a walk-on.

Pittman has been the heart and soul of UAB football’s team since 2016 when the Blazers went through their practice season. He is a five-year starter and earned a scholarship prior to the start of the 2018 season.

Pittman has appeared in 58 career games and has compiled 705 career receiving yards with five touchdowns.

Despite helping lead Spanish Fort to the state title as a senior, Pittman was not highly recruited out of high school and decided to join his high school quarterback and best friend Tyler Johnston III at UAB.

Since then, Pittman has been a staple in UAB’s lineup and has contributed to three-consecutive Conference USA West Division titles and two C-USA Championships. His touchdown catch against Marshall sparked UAB’s 22-13 victory in the 2020 Conference USA Championship.

This season, Pittman currently has 11 catches for 127 yards. From the end of 2018 until two weeks ago against Rice, Pittman had a streak of 32 consecutive games with a reception.

Pittman and the Blazers return to Protective Stadium this Saturday at 11 a.m. to host Louisiana Tech. Along with fans being able to donate to Tickets for Troops in honor of UAB’s annual Salute to Service Game, the Blazers are also offering a Family Four Pack which features four tickets for $40.
