Blazers Share the Points in Road Draw at Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. – The UAB men’s soccer team earned a scoreless draw at Old Dominion on Sunday to post their first clean sheet of the season.

Blazer goalkeeper Seth Torman made seven saves in net to help preserve the clean sheet. UAB’s back line withstood eight shots on frame over 110 minutes to head back to Birmingham with a point in the Conference USA standings.

UAB fired three of its 13 shots in the first half, including an attempt from Zak Mohamed in the 40th minute. Mohamed paced the Blazers with two shots on goal in Sunday’s match.

The Green and Gold’s offense came to life in the second half, recording six shots and earning a pair of corner kicks to put pressure on the Monarchs.

After 90 minutes, the C-USA matchup entered two 10-minute periods with a potential golden goal determining the winner. The Blazers fired a pair of shots in both periods, including an attempt from senior Brooks Rice in the 94th minute. Torman played a long ball from his own 18-yard box that found Rice in on goal behind the ODU backline, but the senior’s shot sailed high over the cross bar for a potential game winner.

Jacob Jowers and Owen Travis each registered shots for the Blazers in the match’s final 10 minutes, missing left of the goal in each instance.

UAB finished the match with 13 shots, two shots on goal and four earned corner kicks. Five Blazers recorded two shots apiece in Sunday’s draw.

The Blazers will return home to BBVA Field for the final time in 2021 with a matchup against Charlotte (9-5) on Saturday. UAB will honor its five seniors with pregame Senior Night festivities before the Green and Gold’s final match of the season.
