Men’s soccer slides past Catawba 2-1 in SC

AIKEN, SC. – The Montevallo men’s soccer team succeeded 2-1 in a non-conference match up against Catawba.  With the win the Falcons advance to 12-2-2 on the season with the Indians dropping to 7-6-2.

The game went scoreless for the first 26 minutes of the match until Catawba’s Tom Savigar found Malik Wilkes for the first goal of the game.  Montevallo had its chances during the first half but could not put one in the net by halftime.

The Falcons figured it out during the halftime break, taking only 4:08 to score in the second half, with Julio Rojo scored from near the post off the assist from Narcis Bou Dalmau.  

Montevallo didn’t take much longer to find another goal after Rojo played a ball for Nemanja Acimovic to score with 36 minutes left in the match.  The Falcon defense sealed the deal for UM, holding off thr Indians for the rest of the period to secure the 2-1 victory.

The Falcons edged Catawba in shots with 12 total and six on frame in comparison to nine shots with two on frame from the Indians.  Montevallo held the advantage in corner kicks with eight total opportunities compared to one from Catawba.

UP NEXT: The Falcons will conclude the regular season with a region shifting battle against AUM.  Kick off is set for Thursday, November 4th at 5:00 pm in Montgomery.
