UAB Falls 1-0 at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – The UAB men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Coastal Carolina in a low-scoring battle at CCU Soccer Stadium.

The Blazers logged the first shot on goal of the match in the 15th minute when Tyrell Price fired an attempt on frame.

UAB maintained its early pressure with two strong attempts in the 31st minute, registering a pair of shots in a six-second span. Cale Loughrey drove in down the right side before a Coastal Carolina defender blocked his right-footed shot. Blazer leading goal scorer Nathaniel St. Louis then blasted an effort off the rebound directly off the right post.

After a scoreless first half, Price fired the first two attempts of the second half in the 47th and 54th minute, respectively. The Chanticleers (4-4-4) broke through for the winning goal when Luc Mikula netted a cross from teammate Alvaro Garcia-Pasqual for the game’s only score.

UAB just missed an equalizer when Price once again pushed forward down the left flank, forcing a save from CCU goalkeeper Leon Schmidt. The Blazers could not capitalize on the ensuing corner kick as the Chanticleers cleared the ball out of their own 18-yard box.

The Blazers finished the game with seven shots, including two attempts on target. Price paced UAB with four shots and two shots on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Seth Torman made five stops for the Green and Gold in net to keep UAB within striking distance.
UAB continues its road trip with a matchup at Old Dominion (2-8-1) on Sunday.
