MOBILE, Ala. (October 26, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team defeated historic Jesuit rival the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack 3-0 (25-15; 25-8; 25-20) in a non-conference match at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Tuesday night, giving Badgers head coach Peggy Martin her 1,400th career victory – an unprecedented achievement in women’s collegiate volleyball.
 
The Wolf Pack (16-8) fell behind the Badgers 10-4 early in the first set and saw the deficit grow to as much as 22-13 before SHC closed out the set 25-15. The second set was a runaway victory for the home team that scored 13 of the last 14 points in a 25-8 decision.
 
Loyola kept the third match close at 10-8, but a 10-1 run by the Badgers put SHC in command at 20-9. A late 6-point run by the Wolf Pack pulled them to within 23-17, but the damage had been done and SHC took home the final set 25-20.
 
SHC held Loyola to a .060 (24-17-117) attack percentage with 20 assists, three aces, 43 digs and four (1-6) blocks while building out a .313 (41-11-99) attack percentage of their own. The Badgers collected 40 assists, nine aces, 67 digs and six (1-10) blocks.
 
Senior middle hitter Kassandra Fairly belted out 14 kills for an impressive .632 (14-2-19) attack percentage with one ace and a block assist. Freshman Jessica Fairly distributed 36 assists with two aces and nine digs while libero Taylor Fontenelle scooped in 19 digs with three aces. Redshirt freshman middle hitter Olivia Peyton continued to be a force on the front line with five (1-4) blocks and six kills.
 
No member of the Wolf Pack had more than six kills. Kailyn O’Neal had eight assists with an ace and libero Simone Moreau earned 12 digs and a service ace for Loyola.
 
The Badgers (25-5, 16-0 SIAC) will wrap up their 2021 regular season schedule with a home Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) match versus the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers (5-13; 5-11 SIAC) on Friday, November 5 at 6 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. Before the match, the Badgers will honor their three Senior Class teammates with the annual Senior Night Ceremony.
