CARROLLTON, Ga. – West Georgia scored three goals in the match to defeat West Alabama 3-0 in Gulf South Conference action Sunday afternoon at the University Field in Carrollton, Georgia.
The Tigers dropped their overall record to 7-4-2, 5-3-1 in GSC play. The Wolves improved to 7-6 overall and are now 5-5 in the conference.
West Georgia jumped to a 1-0 lead when Cassidi Thoams scored in the 10th minute. Neither team scored in the remaining of the first half, giving UWG a 1-0 advantage over UWA before heading into halftime.
The Wolves added two more goals in the second half to close out the match with a 3-0 victory over the Tigers.
Tabitha Weldon, the Tigers’ goalie, recorded four saves as she faced 13 shots in her 90 minutes of action.
Haley Brinkman is the Wolves’ goalkeeper. She had three saves as she faced six shots in her 90 minutes of action.
West Georgia out shot West Alabama 13-6 and won the shots on goal battle 7-3.
There were three yellow cards and 16 fouls called in the physical contest. Each team was called for eight fouls.
The Tigers return home to face Lee University Friday, Oct. 29. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
