MOBILE, Ala. – Former University of South Alabama men’s basketball player Trhae Mitchell is returning to the G-League for his second season with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, an affiliate of the Houston Rockets.
Mitchell and Trevelin Queen are the only two returning guards from last year’s Rio Grande Valley squad that finished last season 9-6, and won six straight to close out the regular season. The former Jag averaged 1.3 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.5 blocks in just 8.7 minutes of action.
Mitchell scored two points, grabbed four rebounds, one assist, one steal and added a block in the first round of the playoffs for the Valley Vipers last year.
Mitchell earned third-team all-Sun Belt in 2018-19 and 2019-20. Mitchell recorded 1,127 points, 704 rebounds, 310 assists, 185 blocks and 110 steals in 125 appearances for the Jags in his four years with the program. Mitchell is third in school history with 185 blocks in his career and sixth in the record books with 704 rebounds. Mitchell is also the only player in program history to lead the team in rebounds, assists, steals and blocks in the same season, and second to have 200 rebounds and 100 assists in one year.
Rio Grande Valley’s season tips off Friday, Nov. 5 against the Austin Spurs.
