Montevallo takes 4-0 shutout over Shorter

ROME, Ga. – The Montevallo men’s soccer team ended their match with Shorter Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 win in Rome.  With the win the Falcons advance to 11-2-2 with a 7-2-1 Gulf South Conference record while Shorter slips to 2-9-0 with an 0-8 record in conference.

“There is no game in the GSC that any team can show up and they have won. Today was no different,” said head coach Bruce Dietterle. “Shorter held strong for 45 min today. We struggled to control the tempo and emotions of the game. We made some half time adjustments and settled down. The timing of the goals shows an immediate change in our success. From there we played with a lot of confidence. I’m proud of these guys.”

Montevallo started the game a little slow with niether team scoring in the first half.  The Falcons regrouped at halftime and found a goal from Nemanja Acimovic in the 48th minute of the match.  UM followed up with another goal less than a minute later when Edorta Cabieces Sans booted a ball into the Hawks net to gain a 2-0 advantage.  

The Falcons kept the intensity in the second half finding another goal when Cabieces Sans played a ball for Narcis Bou Dalmau to score in the 59th minute.  Montevallo capped off the match with a goal from Kevin Menendez with Zachary Day providing assistance for a 4-0 lead with less than three minutes remaining.

Montevallo outshot Shorter 23-8 with 11 on goal shots compared to the Hawks four.  The Falcons also held an 8-5 edge over Shorter in corner kicks.

Salvador Plaza was in goal for his second shutout of the weekend making four saves.

UP NEXT:  The Falcons will face Catawba on Wednesday, October 27th with kickoff slated for 3:00 pm in Aiken, South Carolina.
