Falcons Finish Off Unblemished Weekend at Crossover

WINTER HAVEN, FLA. – The Montevallo volleyball team beat Florida Tech and Saint Leo on Saturday to complete a weekend sweep of the Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference Crossover. With the wins, the Falcons (12-12) picked up some much needed momentum heading into the stretch run of the GSC schedule.

Montevallo def Florida Tech 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 28-26)

Senior Evelina Teran hit a red hot .302 with 18 kills and only five errors on 43 attempts to lead UM to their second win over Florida Tech in 2021. She also had 15 digs to complete the double. Macy Martin added 11 kills, while Sav Roys and Colton Thompson had 22 and 21 assists respectively. Casey Hendrixson anchored on defense with 27 digs.

Montevallo def Saint Leo 3-1 (25-21, 14-25, 25-19, 25-23)

Evelina Teran finished off a solid weekend with 15 kills and 14 digs to lead the way for the Falcons. Allie Dishman added 12 kills, while Macy Martin tallied 11. Setters Sav Roys and Colton Thompson split time in the match. Thompson finished with 22 assists, while Roys had 20. Thompson also had 14 digs. Libero Casey Hendrixson also had double-figure digs in the match with 13. Morgan Hoffman also got into the act on defense with six blocks (two solo).

With the last of the non-conference matches behind them, the Falcons return home for a pair of critical GSC matches. On Friday, UM takes on Valdosta State on Pink Night at the SAC. The match gets underway at 6 p.m. Then on Saturday, West Georgia comes to town for a Halloween Eve visit. Match time is 2 p.m. 

Currently, UM is tied for 8th in the GSC with Mississippi College and Lee University. West Georgia and Valdosta State are just ahead of the Falcons at six and seven. The top eight teams advance to the GSC Tournament.
