Cross Country men run 3rd at SIAC Championships

ROCK HILL, S.C. (October 22, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men’s cross country team finished third at the 2021 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Men’s Cross Country Championships held at Winthrop Farms on Friday morning.

The Badgers finished with 70 points in an average team time of 30:01 (2:30:04 total time) over the 8,000-meter course. Benedict College was the team champion in a field of 12 teams with 38 points and an average time of 28:27 (2:22:14 total time).

Sophomore Will Tate of Edgewood, Ky. was the top Badger runner, scoring 4 points in a time of 28:23.2 while freshman Myles Cook of Spanish Fort, Ala. scored 11 points at 29:25.9. Nelson Kipkemboi of Benedict was the individual champion in 26:28.8 to lead the field of 71 runners.

Freshman Thomas Monier of Belle Chasse, La. scored 15 points at 30:40.9; junior Brian Pempel of Spanish Fort had 16 points at 30:42.8; and freshman Harrison Weisinger of Mandeville, La. closed out the Badger scoring with 19 points in 30:50.9.

Freshman Ridge Chautin of Slidell, La. recorded a time of 31:37.8.4 for 27th place and sophomore TJ Gennari of Chelsea, Ala., came in at 29th with a time of 32:53.9.

With his 4th place finish, Tate earned a spot on the 2021 SIAC All-Conference Team as announced by the conference following the meet.

The Badgers will next compete in the 2021 NCAA Division II South Region Championships held at Abbey Golf Course in St. Leo, Fla. on Saturday, November 6, at 9:45 a.m. (east)
