Badgers earn 3rd consecutive SIAC Championship

ROCK HILL, S.C. (October 22, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women’s cross country team won their third consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Team Championship on Friday morning at Winthrop Farms.

The Badgers finished with 30 points in a field of 9 teams with an average team time of 21:20 (1:46:39 total time) over the 5,000-meter course. With titles in 2018 and 2019 (the 2020 championship was canceled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic), this win gives the Badger women’s team a third consecutive SIAC crown.

Senior Mary Elizabeth Shelton of Jacksonville, Ala. scored 1 point as the conference runner-up in a time of 19.56.5 and sophomore Madeline Knightly of Chicago, Ill. posted a time of 21:14.9 for 3 points. Kayla Chance of Savannah State University earned the individual championship with a time of 19:29.0 over the field of 65 runners.

Junior Cat Dulle of St. Charles, Mo. finished with 5 points in 21:27.5 and freshman Claire Morgan of Mobile, Ala. had a time of 21:37.3 for 9 points. Freshman Victoria Morera of Redlands, Fla. closed out the SHC scoring with 12 points in a time of 22:22.5.

Freshman Grace Forbes of Franklin, Tenn. ran a time of 22:29.6 in 14th place and junior Caroline Weisinger of Mandeville, La. registered a time of 23:17.5 for 19th place.

As Top 10 finishers, Badger runners Shelton, Knightly, Dulle and Morgan earned All-Conference Team recognition following the race.

With the win, the Badgers have now qualified for the 2021 NCAA Division II South Region Cross Country Championships to be held at Abbey Golf Course in St. Leo, Fla. on Saturday, November 6, at 8:30 a.m. (east)
