GRADY, Ala. – The Tuskegee University cross country teams set three personal records and had five of its seven runners place in the top-25 during the Hawk 4K / 5K Invitational at Greenbriar Track on Saturday morning.
Neither side had enough runners to register a score but both squads impressed.
For the Golden Tigers, Jelani White sped past the competition to come in ninth during the 5K, boasting a personal-best time of 17:50.29.
Steven Baker made his season debut for Coach Bowen, posting a 20:00.39 to sneak inside the top-25 at 24th.
Jury Sims was the third and final participant on the men’s team, setting a new fastest mark at 21:34.67 to slot in at 27th.
For the women from Skegee, Kailyn Thrash once again took the top spot for the Crimson and Old Gold in 14th place with a 19:01.96.
Alyssa Wilkins-Jones was the lone Tigerette to log a personal-record, crossing the finish line in a 19:54.74 clip to come in 18th during the 4K.
Mataoka Wilson also made her running debut Saturday morning, capping off the teams’ top-25 placements at 23rd at a pace of 21:05.07.
Concluding the list of student-athletes was Jasmyne Lawrence, who completed the race in 23:06.91, slotting at 28th overall.
Tuskegee will forge a new path at the Falcon Classic on Friday, September 17th, heading to Montevallo for a 9 a.m. start.
