VALDOSTA, Ga. (September 26, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers women’s soccer team suffered a tough 4-0 Gulf South Conference (GSC) loss to the Valdosta State University (VSU) Blazers at the VSU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Blazers (4-1-1, 1-0-1 GSC) opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Jocelyn Oballe found the top of the net from the left side of the box after a pass from Amber Saunders. By halftime, it was a 2-0 VSU lead after Hannah Schroeder lifted in an unassisted goal from 18 yards out.

In the second half. Lexie Hall notched a penalty kick goal in the 52nd minute and Samantha Worley came off the bench to add the final goal with a header off a corner kick by Ariana Colon in the 84th minute.

Badger starting keeper Anna Brunner (0-8) made six saves against 15 shots and seven corner kicks by VSU. Samantha Blanford (2-0-1) of the Blazers faced four Badger shots and three corner attempts in 74 minutes while Emma Pruett finished out the final 16 minutes in goal.

Following the contest SHC head coach Emily Marcouiller stressed her team’s efforts, “I’m extremely proud of this group today,” she said. “I don’t think the score reflects on how well we played. We made them work for it. This is the first game that we put a complete 90 minutes and didn’t give up and I’m extremely proud of that.”

The Badgers (0-8; 0-4 GSC) will host the Christian Brothers University (CBU) Buccaneers (4-3; 2-1 GSC) at Library Field on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
