BSC FALLS IN FIVE SET BATTLE

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team lost in a five set battle with the Centre Colonels. Kennedy Dickens and Alyssa Coats led the team with 16 kills each. 
 
The Colonels took the first three points of the first set. Continuing with their lead, Centre were up 22-16, but the Panthers were able to score seven out of the next eight points to tie it up at 23-23. Centre grabbed set point but once again Birmingham-Southern tied it up again at 24-24. Centre ultimately grabbed the next two points to take the first set 26-24.
 
Set two was another back and forth fight between the Panthers and Colonels. Birmingham-Southern was down 16-11 before coming back to tie it at 17-17, then 19-19. Unfortunately, they were only able to gain two more points off the Colonels before falling 25-21.
 
After being down two sets, the Panthers were able to come back to take the next two straight sets forcing it to a five set match. Birmingham-Southern took the early lead in the third set 5-2. The Panthers managed to keep their lead throughout the whole set, taking it 25-20.
 
The Panthers had four of their 12 total blocks in the fourth set. They jumped out in the lead 6-1 over the Colonels in the beginning of the set. Centre fought back to tie it up at 18-18. A kill from Kennedy Dickens and a block from Leah Nielsen and Ansleigh Dailey pushed the Panthers to a 22-18 lead. BSC grabbed set point at 24-22, but the Colonels held them to one more before the Panthers took the set 25-23. 
 
Centre took the early lead in the fifth set, not wasting any time at 6-2. Birmingham-Southern fought back to close up the Colonels lead at 9-7, but ultimately fell 15-10 in the final set.
