FLORENCE, Ala. — Former University of North Alabama baseball standout Tyler Joyner has been promoted to the AAA Norfolk Tides in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

A pitcher at North Alabama in 2017 and 2018 and a two-time Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Year and GSC Pitcher of the Decade, Joyner was drafted by the Orioles in 2018 and started the 2021 season with the AA Bowie Baysox. At Bowie he was 3-3 in relief, pitching 26.2 innings with a 5.40 ERA in 11 appearances. Joyner also had 26 strikeouts with opponents hitting just .245 against him.

While at UNA, Joyner was a two-time first-team All-GSC and two-time first-team All-Region selection. He also won five GSC Pitcher of the Week awards in two seasons.

Joyner had an 18-7 career record, including a 10-2 mark in 2017. He ranks second in school history with 210 career strikeouts and is just the second pitcher in UNA history to pitch more than 100 innings in two different seasons with 103.2 in 2017 and 105.2 in 2018. He threw 13 complete games in 28 career starts with the Lions. He ranked fourth in Division II in complete games in 2017 (7) and 15th in 2018 (6).
