Weldon Named GSC Defensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Goalkeeper Tabitha Weldon on UWA women’s soccer team had been named Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. 

The Orange Park, Florida native recorded a total of eight saves in the two-match weekend series against Christian Brothers and Union. She recorded four saves during each match and kept two clean sheets. 

Weldon improved her record to 5-2-1. The graduate student has played eight matches this season and started in all of them. Weldon is currently ranked second in the conference for goals against average, allowing only four with a .486 average. She is also ranked second in the conference for saves and shutouts per game, recording a total of 31 saves with five shutouts this season.

Weldon and the Tigers return to action October 15 as they face Auburn Montgomery in a GSC matchup. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
