Four Tigers Earn GSC All-Academic Team, 108 Receive Honor Roll Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Four Tigers were named to the 2021 Gulf South Conference Spring All-Academic Team for their performance during the 2020-21 academic year in their field of competition and the classroom. Sarah Manseri, graduate women’s tennis player; Taylor Clemmons, senior baseball player; Vince Stans, graduate men’s soccer player; and Anele Komani, senior women’s soccer player, all represented the University of West Alabama among the best in the conference.

Sarah Manseri is pursuing a master’s in business administration and has maintained a 4.0 GPA. This season, the Poulx, France native was 8-10 in singles play and 10-5 in doubles. She ranked 48th nationally and 13th in the region in singles and, with fellow Tiger Haina Franco, finished as the No. 6 doubles team in the South Region.

Taylor Clemmons is studying health sciences with a 3.72 GPA. The Tiger first baseman played and started in 33 games during the 2021 season to maintain a .360 batting average, a .426 slugging percentage, a .437 on-base percentage, and a .989 fielding percentage. The Northport, Ala. native tallied 111 at-bats, 26 runs, 40 hits (5 doubles and two home runs), and 20 RBIs. This is the second time in his career that Clemmons had been named to the GSC All-Academic Team.

Vince Stans is pursuing a master’s degree in business administration while holding a 3.80 GPA. The forward from Sittard, Netherlands, played in nine games this season with 19 shots and four goals (two game-winners). He received a 2021 All-Tournament Team nod for his effort in the GSC Championship Series.

Anele Komani is a senior studying sport management with a 3.38 GPA. The midfielder from London, England, played in six games with six starts for four goals (one game-winner), three assists, and 25 shots (16 on goal). She was also named to the GSPC Spring Championship Series All-Tournament Team.

Along with the Tigers recognized on the Spring 20201 All-Academic Team, 108 UWA student-athletes received 2021 GSC Spring Honor Roll honors. These student-athletes earned GPAs of 3.0 or higher while participating in their sport. Six UWA programs were represented with 17 baseball players, 23 softball players, 13 men’s track and field athletes, six women’s track and field athletes, 11 men’s soccer players, 17 women’s soccer player, four men’s tennis athletes, six women’s tennis athletes, and 11 volleyball players.
