THE SERIES
This is the 38th meeting of the two teams. West Georgia leads the series 22-15.

WEST ALABAMA
UWA is 4-0 after conference-opening weekend, defeating Mississippi College, 31-28. The Tigers rose to 15th in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll after making their debut at No. 21 last week.

WEST GEORGIA
UWG is also 4-0 after defeating conference-rival Shorter University last week. The Wolves are ranked No. 9 in the AFCA poll.

THE TIGERS VS. THE WOLVES
In the last meeting, West Georgia defeated West Alabama 33-17 inside Tiger Stadium. The Tigers last time at UWG was in 2018 and UWA lost 27-25 on the road.

Battle at the top
Against the Choctaws, Demetrius Battle had 109 rushing yards for two touchdowns to rank 7th in Week Four performances among running backs in the NCAA Division II. He is also ranked sixth in the GSC with 73.0 rushing yards per game.

MCdaniELS on The Pass
Senior quarterback Jack McDaniels ranks 45th nationally in passing yards and third in the GSC, 18th in the NCAA in passing yards per game, and 37th in passing yards per completions. The Lorton, Va. native is ranked 31 in total offense. In three games, McDaniels went 57-for-96 for a 59.4 percent completion for 826 yards and five touchdowns. He averages 275.3 yards per game with a 148.8 efficiency.

Anderson with 10
This week’s Jack’s Player of the Week, Michael Anderson, had 10 tackles against the Choctaws. The Chatom, Ala. native had seven solo tackles and three assists in week four, with one tackle for a one-yard loss.

Junior defensive back Shamar Lewis is ranked 11th among NCAA Division II opponents in interceptions per game. Lewis has played in three games for two interceptions and 21 interception return yards.

Archie breaking up passes
Schdarren Archie is among the top-10 nationally in pass breakups. The senior defensive back and racked up four pass breakups in three games for one interception. He is also ranked in the top-10 in pass breakups. Archie has recorded three in three games.

UWA rose to 15th in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll after making its season debut at 21 the prior week. West Alabama defeated Mississippi College on the road. 31-28, in its first Gulf South Conference game since 2019. A win over West Georgia (No. 9) would likely break the Tigers into the top-10.

No. 2 Offense vs. No. 3 Defense
West Georgia’s 43.8 points per game offense will go up against West Alabama’s defense which only allows 14.0 points per game. The Wolves offense is ranked No. 2 in the GSC, while the Tigers defense is ranked third in the conference.

The Tigers offense averages 37.3 points per game and will go head-to-head against the Wolves defense, allowing only 8.3 points per game. UWA’s offense is ranked fourth in the GSC, and UWG’s defense is ranked No. 2.
