Dunkle Named GSC Special Teams Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has chosen its Week 5 Football Players of the Week. Receiving the honor for the first time this season, Gabriel Dunkle, senior kicker, was named as the GSC Special Teams Player of the Week.

In the Tigers 38-20 victory over 9th ranked West Georgia, Dunkle was 5-for-5 in extra points and converted a 41-yard field attempt. The Glendora, Calif. native had seven kickoffs for an average of 61.4 yards.

The road win over the Wolves marked West Alabama’s fifth season, making the Tigers 5-0 for the first time in the program’s history. It was also the 50th career win for head coach Brett Gilliland.

UWA looks to extend its winning streak to 6-0 when it travels to Rome, Ga. to take on Shorter University on Saturday, Oct. 9. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CT/ 1 p.m. ET.
