Late Surge Pushes UAH Past Montevallo 3-1 Friday Night

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women’s soccer team picked up a conference win on Friday night, using three late goals to defeat visiting Montevallo 3-1 at Charger Park. UAH improves to 5-3-2 (3-2-1 Gulf South Conference) with the victory, while UM falls to 5-6-0 (2-5-0 GSC).

The game was a scoreless affair through the first 71 minutes, but the Chargers would erupt for three goals in the next 13 minutes with Carmen Endicott starting the scoring in the 72nd off an assist from Brynn Colvin that put the home side up 1-0.

Just six minutes later in the 78th, Mackenzie Kandil scored what would prove to be the eventual game-winner on a beautiful strike from distance, and the third goal of the outburst would come in the 85th when UAH was awarded a penalty kick that Laura Hasani would convert to put the Chargers in front 3-0.

Melanie Stevens scored in the 88th for Montevallo to create the 3-1 final.

Hasani’s goal pulls her into a tie for second on the team with three on the season, while both Endicott and Kandil tally their first. The assist for Colvin is her second, and she now has a team-best 10 points.

For the game, Montevallo outshot the hosts by a 15-12 margin, but attempts on goal were even at 9-9 as Adriana Wright recorded eight saves in picking up the win in goal for the Blue and White.

Endicott led UAH with four shots of which three were on goal.

The victory for the Chargers snaps what had been a three-game skid in the all-time series against the Falcons, and it’s the first win at Charger Park in the series since Sept. 9, 2015.

UAH will look to continue its unbeaten streak – which currently sits at three – on Sunday when the team welcomes another in-state foe in Auburn Montgomery. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
