TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 22 ranked Alabama men’s cross country team raced to a ninth-place finish at the Pre-Nationals Invitational Friday morning behind a stellar run by Victor Kiprop who finished third amongst a stacked field in Tallahassee..

With a trio of top-40 individual finishes, Alabama tallied 325 points to earn its top-10 finish among a field that included 13 ranked squads. In addition to Kiprop, Eliud Kipsang took 13th place, while Hillary Cheruiyot was 33rd. Jacob Wiggers was 128th and Carson Burian was 153rd to round out the Tide’s scoring five.

Kiprop also became just one of six men to go under 23 minutes over the Apalachee Regional Park 8-kilometer course, posting a time of 22:54.8. This year’s NCAA Championships will also be held in Tallahassee at the Apalachee Regional Park.

Kerri Walsh led a trio of Crimson Tide runners who raced as individuals in the Women’s Open 5-kilometer event, turning in a time of 22:38.7.

“Our men’s team had a good day against a great field. We moved up throughout the race with Victor leading the way with one of the best performances in the history of this course. To finish third in this field is a real accomplishment and sets him up well as we head into the postseason. Overall, this was step forward for us and something we can build on heading into the SEC Championships. Kerri did a good job of leading the way for the handful of runners we had in the women’s open race. The regular season is in the books and now we’re focused on the championships.”
