Žemberyová Represents Slovakia in World Cup Qualification

BIRMINGHAM – Laura Zemberyova recently played a pair of matches for the Slovakian National team in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification (UEFA).
Slovakia is in Group A along with Finland, Georgia, Ireland and Sweden. In all, there are nine total qualifying groups. The qualifying stage was decided by the draw held in April 2021 with the teams seeded according to their coefficient ranking.
Their first match played on Sept. 17 was a 1-0 setback against Sweden played at National Training Centre in Senec, Slovakia. The lone goal was scored in the 10th minute.
On Sept. 21, Slovakia visited Finland at Veritas Stadium in Turku. Finland got on the board in the 37th minute. Slovakia countered with equalizer in the 63rd minute, but Finland got the eventual game-winner in the 68th minute. Zemberyova started the match.
Zemberyova was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after scoring the golden goal against Southern Miss on Oct. 1.
The Blazers remain on the road for their next match, facing Rice on Oct. 8. UAB returns home on Oct. 15 to host North Texas for the annual Bark in the Park night.
