Weekend Preview
The Blazers will look to keep up their momentum after going 2-0 versus Southern Miss last weekend. Fernanda Maida is currently 6th in the nation in kills per set, and UAB is currently hitting .237% as a team. Coach Betsy Freeburg said, “With the still COVID modified Divisional CUSA schedule, we have not had the chance to play any East Divisions opponents until now. When the original CUSA schedules came out, we immediately called ODU to see if they wanted to play on our bye weekend, and they were as excited as we were for the chance to play more volleyball. There are great opportunities to grow ahead of us this weekend including playing a new conference opponent we have never faced in a new facility we have never competed in. We look forward to these challenges and taking advantage of the unique opportunity this weekend presents.”
Scouting the Monarchs
Old Dominion comes into this weekend after splitting two matches vs Florida Atlantic last weekend. Hailey Duncan leads the squad in kills with 118, and Olivia De Jesus has 18 service aces on the year. Teresa Atilano has 452 assists. The Monarchs currently hit .203% as a team.
A mask mandate is currently in effect for all indoor spaces on the campus of Old Dominion University, including the ODU Volleyball Center. All patrons are required to wear a face mask that always covers both the mouth and nose fully while in the ODU Volleyball Center, except while eating or drinking. If an individual enters the facility without a mask, one will be provided.
