Trojans Open Conference Schedule With A Pair of Home Matches

TROY, Ala. – Troy will open Sun Belt Conference play Friday as they welcome Texas State and UT Arlington on Saturday to Trojan Arena. Both matches are scheduled for a 6:00 first serve.
The Trojans (7-4) are riding a four-game win streak and currently sit in second in the East Division heading into the conference schedule after sweeping the Samford Invitational.
“We are excited to be back in Trojan Arena for the start of Sun Belt play,” head coach Josh Lauer said. “These are marquee cross-divisional matches against Texas State and UTA to begin conference play and a tremendous opportunity for our team to compete against the top of our conference right out of the gate.”

  • Amara Anderson accumulated 120 assists for last week’s matches, moving her into fourth all-time in program history and second in program history during the Rally Scoring Era with 3081 assists. She is also 149 digs away from 1000 digs. Anderson would become the fourth Trojan in program history to reach 3000 assists and 1000 digs.
  • Anderson currently averages 10.83 assists per set, which sit in second in the Sun Belt Conference and 25th in the entire country. Her 444 total assists sit at 24th in the nation. Her 17 service aces on the year are also second in the conference.
  • Julia Brooks has a .307 hitting percentage which puts her 10th among all players in the Sun Belt, and she is ninth in kills with 3.10 kills per set.
  • In the rally-scoring era, Cheyenne Hayes became the Trojan’s all-time leader in kills during Troy’s 3-1 match win over Chattanooga earlier in the season. Hayes passes Meghan Gilroy. Hayes now has 1482 kills in her career and is 162 kills away from being the all-time leader in Trojan. Earlier in the year, Tory Cheyenne Hayes became the fifth Trojan in program history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
  • As a team, Troy ranks second in kills averaging 13.29 per set and second in assists with 12.41 per set in the Sun Belt Conference.
  • Troy currently ranks 46th in the country in assists (12.41), 72nd in kills per set (13.29), and 79th in the country in aces per set (1.68)

Know Your Opponent:
Texas State (4-9): After finishing last season first in the West Division and going 31-9 and 15-1 in the Sun Belt Conference ending the season ranked 11th in all the country. The Bobcats started the 2021 season with a loaded schedule facing defending national champion Kentucky, sixth-ranked Ohio State, and current number one ranked Texas.
In the Sun Belt, Texas St. gives up the highest opponent hitting percentage (.258), the second most opponent kills per set (13.46) as well as the second most opponent assists per set (12.19).
UT Arlington (2-7): The Mavericks are coming off their first two wins of the season after defeating Prairie View A&M and Northwestern State. They average the most digs per set (18.44) in the Sun Belt Conference and give up the most opponent digs (18.79). In addition, they allow their opponents the most kills per set (13.72) and have the least amount of service aces (42).
