Track and Field Concludes Season at NCAA East Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The UAB track and field team wrapped up its season at the NCAA East Prelims in Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday
“Our student-athletes competed hard today,” head coach Kurt Thomas said. “We had some good things happen and some sad moments.”
Anna Massa started out the day in the pole vault. She cleared a personal-best mark of 4.17-meters, just missing out on a spot for the NCAA Championship. Massa placed 14th in the event, with the top-12 advancing to Eugene.
“Anna had a great day,” Thomas added. “It was a very hot day and she battled to set a new PR. Anna was so close to qualifying for Eugene.”
In the long jump, Brittany Floyd placed 42nd with a mark of 5.66-meters. Floyd finishes the outdoor season with a second-place finish in the heptathlon at the Conference USA Championships and a member of the Conference USA All-Academic Team.
“Brittany had a phenomenal year and we’re proud of her,” Thomas added.
Closing out the day, Lisa Petkov placed 27th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.16. It was the second fastest time she ran all season in the event. Petkov ended the season with a
“Lisa ran a good race,” Thomas said. “She stuttered on a hurdle and it slowed her a little. They all had a great year as did our entire team.”
