JAGUAR CROSS COUNTRY TO COMPETE AT FSU XC INVITE / PRE-NATIONALS ON FRIDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – With the Sun Belt Conference Championships two weeks away, the University of South Alabama men’s and women’s cross country teams will participate in their final regular-season meet of the fall on Friday morning when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to compete at the FSU XC Invite Pre-Nationals held at Appalachee Regional Park.

NOTES
– Last fall, South competed at the FSU Invitational to open the month of October. Carolien Millenaar set a new 5k personal best and crossed the line with a time of 17:34.0 to earn her second title in as many races in the Women’s Open race.
– They Jaguar men also took home their second team title of the season at the 8k event as they won the Men’s Open posting 31 points. Led by Kirami Yego (25:19.2) and Onesmus Kemboi (25:31.5), who placed second and third, USA had all five of its scorers finish 12th or better.
– The South Alabama men have recorded a pair of top 3 finishes this season.
– Yego has posted a top 5 finish in five of his seven career races, placing no lower than 13th in any of those meets.
– Yego, a three-time SBC runner of the week selection this fall, has set new personal best each of his first three meets and holds the eighth- and ninth-fastest 8k times in program history.
– Yego and Teagan Flanagan have finished as the top two runners for the Jaguar men in each of South’s first three meets this fall. 
– Onesmus Kemboi has finished inside the top 10 in 14 of his 23 career races, while also placing inside the top 15 on 19 occasions during his collegiate career.
– Florida State will serve as host of the 2021 NCAA Championships next month, marking the first time the Seminoles have done so. Since 2012, Appalachee Regional Park has served as the South Regional site on four occasions (2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018).
