Former Troy Track & Field Athlete Gemma Finch To Begin Her Professional Career

TROY, Ala. – Former Troy Track & Field athlete Gemma Finch announced over the weekend that she would be continuing her career running professionally for Atlanta Track Club Elite.

“I really don’t have the words, but for so long, this was the goal in my mind,” Finch said. “I wouldn’t say it out loud because I thought it sounded crazy. I did it! I feel incredibly fortunate to have this opportunity to do what I love every day and put everything into it, surrounded by the best team. Thank you to everyone who has been cheering in my corner. An extra thank you to my college coach, and I can’t thank you enough for your continued support.”

During her time at Troy, Finch won seven Sun Belt Gold medals, was named the 2020 Troy Female Athlete of the Year, is the school record holder in the 800m with a time of 2:02.81, and qualified for the 2021 NCAA Championship in Eugene, Oregon where she finished 20th.

“I am extremely proud of Gemma for her recent signing with Atlanta Track Club Elite,” Director of Troy track & field Marc Davis said. “Gemma lived the lifestyle needed to become a professional athlete. She had a plan to be at this point in her career and continued to work hard to be not only one of the best in the NCAA and her country but has the tools to be one of the best in the world. The future for Gemma is bright, and I cannot wait to see where this journey takes her.

Atlanta Track Club’s Elite teams help competitive athletes of all ages realize their athletic goals. Elevating the visibility, impact, and effectiveness of the Club’s top athletes, promote competitive distance running and track and field at the Olympic, Open, and Masters levels.

“Gemma is an exciting addition to Atlanta Track Club Elite,” coach at Atlanta Track Club Amy Begley said. “Despite being relatively new to the 800m, she has had drastic improvements in a short period. Training with the women here in Atlanta will allow us to see her full potential at this distance, and I think we have just scratched the surface.”
