BSC SWEEPS MAJORS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team strikes again with another sweep over the Millsaps Majors. Kennedy Dickens led the team with 13 kills and a .345 hitting percentage and Gigi Fields was right behind with 10 kills and a .444 hitting percentage. 
 
BSC took an early lead in the first set, jumping out to 6-3 over the Majors. Millsaps was able to come back and take a short lead from the Panthers at 8-7, but it was soon over with a service error that tied up the set. Both teams continued to trade points back and forth until a kill from Emily Buhl and a Majors error put the Panthers ahead at 22-19. Gigi Fields got a kill in there, along with another error from the Majors that gave Birmingham-Southern set point. Millsaps was able to take three points from the Panthers, only trailing behind at one at 24-23, but yet another error allowed BSC to take set one 25-23. 
 
Once again, the Panthers took the early lead at 5-3, but it was short lived as the Majors fought back to tie it up at 6-6. A service ace from the Majors and two kills from Kennedy Dickens gave the Panthers momentum to take bath their lead at 9-8. Four kills in a row powered Birmingham-Southern to 13-9, Alyssa Coats and Kennedy Dickens each had one while Leah Nielsen had back to back. Another four point run for the Panthers was started by a kill from Ansleigh Dailey, followed up by two kills from Gigi Fields which prompted a comfortable 17-10 lead. Millsaps was not done fighting in the set, pushing back to close it up at 21-20. Kennedy Dickens shut it down with the next three kills to boost BSC to set point and Leah Nielsen finished it off at 25-22. 
 
Millsaps played with some edge in the third set, taking the early lead this time 9-3. Two errors by the Majors, a service ace from Ally Mildenberger and a another kill from Kennedy Dickens tightened up the lead at 9-7. The Panthers found their momentum and fought back to tie it up at 11-11. Trading points again, Kate Powell got an ace that put the set at a 14-14 tie. Trailing at 19-17, the Panthers went on a 6 point run with kills from Alyssa Coats and Kennedy Dickens, and back to back aces from Ally Mildenberger. Set three was taken by Birmingham-Southern at 25-20 with a kill from Kennedy Dickens and an error on the Majors to end it.
