Blazers Head to Jacksonville for NCAA East Prelims

BIRMINGHAM — Three members of the UAB track and field team are set to compete at the NCAA East Prelims on May 27 and 29 in Jacksonville, Fla.
 
Brittany Floyd (long jump), Anna Massa (pole vault) and Lisa Petkov (400m hurdles) qualified for the preliminaries after top-48 finishes in the east region in their respective events.
 
“We are thrilled for Brittany, Anna and Lisa to compete against the NCAA’s best,” head coach Kurt Thomas said. “They understand what they need to do to advance.”
 
Floyd starts the Blazers off in the long jump. She enters the meet with a career-best mark of 6.08-meters, which she set at the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays. The long jump competition is set to begin on Thursday at 3 p.m. EST.
 
Massa competes in the pole vault on Thursday at 3 p.m. EST. Massa won gold at the Conference USA Championships with a personal-best jump of 4.13-meters.
 
Petkov runs the 400-meter hurdles on Thursday at 8:20 p.m. EST. The junior comes into the meet with a personal-best time of 58.89, which she ran at the Conference USA Championships.
 
To qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 9-12, the trio would need a top-12 finish in their respective events to advance.
